It is difficult and may not be possible to physically differentiate between African and American teak wood, as both look similar in color, texture, and grain. Due to this similarity, American teak is sometimes sold as Ghana teak or under other African native names.
To ensure the genuineness of the product, ask for a Certificate of Origin (COO) that specifies the source of import.
